Segovia is a small city in the autonomous region of Castile y León, with a population of about 60,000 inhabitants.
It's very near the Spanish capital, Madrid, 90 Km (56 mi).
The climate is continental Mediterranean, cold and dry, resulting from the high altitude and the distance from the
coast. The average temperature is 11.5 °C (52.7 °F), with an minimum in Winter of -14 °C (6.8 °F)
and maximum in Summer of 39 °C (102.2 °F).
A 36 km of Segovia (54 km northwest of Madrid) is located the town of San Ildefonso, or La Granja, or La Granja
de San Ildefonso. Very famous for its palace (the Royal Palace of La Granja de San Ildefonso) and its glass
factory (Royal Glass Factory of La Granja).
The Aqueduct of Segovia is a Roman aqueduct and one of the most significant and best-preserved ancient monuments left on the Iberian Peninsula.

The Alcázar of Segovia is a stone fortification. Rising out on a rocky crag above the confluence of two rivers. It's one of the most distinctive castle-palaces in Spain by virtue of its shape (like the bow of a ship). The Alcázar was originally built as a fortress but has served as a royal palace.

The Royal Palace of La Granja de San Ildefonso is an 18th-century palace in the small town of San Ildefonso. Formerly the summer residence of the Kings of Spain since the reign of Philip V. The palace is in a restrained baroque style surrounded by extensive gardens in the French manner and sculptural fountains.

Around the palace, are one of the best examples of 18th-century European garden design. They have a 1,500 acres
(6 km2) and there are 26 fountains that decorate the park. They rely purely on gravity to project water up to
the 40m. An artificial lake provides a reservoir and water pressure for the whole system.
Today, only a few fountains are active each day, but twice a year, on the feast days of Saint Ferdinand and
Saint Louis, all fountains are set to play.

During the Middle Ages, the city was surrounded by walls, but the walls were finished when Alfonso VI of León and Castile took the city to the Arabs, who commanded a larger coming to have a perimeter of 3 km, 80 towers, 7 gates and 5 small doors. They were built mainly with granite blocks.

It is the last Gothic cathedral built in Spain. It is considered the masterpiece of Basque-Castilian Gothic and is known as "The Lady of Cathedrals". It's dedicated to the Virgin Mary.

Built in the XII century in Romanesque style. Its floor plan replicates that of the Cathedral of Jaca. Of note are the capitals of its columns and the horse shoe arches. There is also some interesting Mudejar handicraft, a XIV century Gothic crucifixion and some important carvings.

It was founded by the Knights Templar in the 13th century. An unusual Romanesque church. This church is inspired on the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem, the origin of the Templar Order.
